The new generation of electric cars from Volkswagen: the innovative ID EV series
-
"Volkswagen" is one of the most popular German car manufacturers, today producing not only vehicles with internal combustion engines but also innovative electric cars. Volkswagen took its first steps into the world of electric vehicles back in the 1970s. However, at that time, this new technology was neither practical nor in demand, which resulted in almost no attention being paid to it.
Everything changed in 2021 with the introduction of the entirely new Volkswagen ID electric car series. The pioneer and cornerstone of this series is considered to be the Volkswagen ID.3. This midsize electric vehicle is arguably the best choice for those prioritizing economical and straightforward daily commuting within and outside city limits.
Versatile yet incredibly simple
Larger, yet still classified as a compact electric vehicle, the Volkswagen ID.3. This car is also quite popular due to its slightly larger body, making it significantly more versatile and family-friendly. Choosing the additional "Pro Performance" package allows drivers to enjoy a 62 kWh battery, enabling a range of approximately 420 kilometers on a single charge.
The advanced battery charging technologies of today are truly impressive. The Volkswagen ID.3 Pro Performance package allows the battery to be charged in just 30 minutes, providing enough power to drive 290 kilometers. Such fast charging requires specially adapted charging infrastructure.
Despite its lower price, the Volkswagen ID.3 also offers drivers a plethora of features typically found in more expensive cars. This makes it a strong competitor against other electric vehicle manufacturers. The main features of the ID.3 include "Head Up Display" (HUD) technology, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, traffic sign recognition, and much more.
The larger body of the electric car also means increased ground clearance due to larger-diameter wheels and a higher chassis. This allows the ID.3 model to feel safer even on off-road-like conditions. However, it’s important to remember that this electric car is primarily designed for standard roads.

The Volkswagen ID series is not yet complete. The manufacturer has announced that a new model, the Volkswagen ID.1, will debut in 2025. Like many other compact electric cars, the Volkswagen ID.1 will feature a futuristic design. Such a design aims to create an innovative approach to electric vehicles and help it integrate into the rapidly expanding EV market.
It is planned that the Volkswagen ID.1 will also become a highly popular model from this manufacturer. Its affordability is expected to greatly influence its popularity. For instance, it is reported that in Lithuania, the new Volkswagen ID.1 will cost around €25,000. For this price, drivers will enjoy simple yet comfortable journeys with a range of approximately 300 kilometers on a single charge. Despite being one of the cheapest and simplest models from this manufacturer, the ID.1 will be made using high-quality Volkswagen parts, ensuring durability.
The Volkswagen ID.1 can be considered an updated version of the Volkswagen e-UP. The latter model debuted in 2013 and was widely and successfully used not only by private owners but also by short-term car rental companies. Compared to the ID.1, the e-UP was somewhat more primitive, both technologically and in design. Its headlights were more angular as the futuristic design trends for electric cars were just emerging. Nonetheless, it was enough to prompt the manufacturer to focus more on developing electric vehicles and their distinctive design.
Although Volkswagen pays significant attention to designing and manufacturing durable parts, some of them are not everlasting. This means that these parts will eventually need replacement to maintain the car's full functionality. AVKParts offers a wide range of original Volkswagen parts.
