Public charging stations for electric cars in Lithuania

  • Public charging stations for electric cars in Lithuania

Each year, Lithuania installs dozens to over a hundred new EV charging stations. The expanding infrastructure makes life easier for EV owners, as there's a good chance a charging station is near their home, workplace, or favorite shopping center. Additionally, traveling across Lithuania has become more convenient without the worry of running out of energy. However, to fully utilize this growing infrastructure, it’s essential to know where free or paid public EV charging stations are located.

Lithuania’s EV infrastructure is being developed by the Ministry of Transport (LAKD) and private businesses. As a result, major cities are well-equipped with charging stations.

    State-Operated EV Charging Stations

EV charging infrastructure is being developed in major cities, resorts, and along primary road networks near international highways. According to technical plans, charging stations are installed approximately every 50 kilometers to facilitate intercity travel by electric vehicles.

The infrastructure adheres to approved European Union standards, offering compatibility with all types of EVs. Stations provide three types of access: AC and DC (Combo2) or DC (CHAdeMO), enabling charging at up to 50 kW.

Many Lidl stores offer EV charging spots. These are free of charge, available during store hours, and can be used for up to 30 minutes per session.

    Additional Information

Public EV charging stations are categorized by power (kW)—the higher the power, the faster the battery charges. EV charging stations are generally divided into three levels:

    • Slow charging (up to ~3 kW),
    • Fast charging (7-22 kW),
    • Ultra-fast charging (43-50 kW).

This information is useful when searching for a suitable charging station.
