Electric Vehicle Purchase Subsidy – for 2025 acquisitions.

The popularity of electric vehicles is rapidly growing in Lithuania. To encourage this trend, the government offers financial incentives to both individuals and businesses. In 2025, EV purchase subsidies become even more relevant, making it important to understand the applicable conditions, subsidy amounts, and the current market situation.

    Subsidy Amounts and Conditions

In Lithuania, the subsidy amount depends on the condition of the purchased EV and the buyer’s status:

    For private individuals:

    • A subsidy of €5,000 is granted for a new EV (up to 6 months from first registration).
    • A subsidy of €2,500 is granted for a used EV (up to 4 years from first registration).

    For legal entities:

    • A subsidy of €4,000 is granted for a new EV (up to 6 months from first registration).

It is important to note that subsidies are granted only for fully electric vehicles, i.e., vehicles powered solely by electricity.

    Subsidy Period and Budget

Subsidies are available for EVs purchased between March 23, 2022, and December 31, 2026. A total of €50 million has been allocated from the Modernization Fund for this period, with the goal of supporting the purchase of over 14,000 EVs.

    Application Process

To receive a subsidy, applicants must submit a request to the Environmental Project Management Agency (APVA). Applications are accepted electronically through the APVA information system. The applicant must be the owner or holder of the purchased EV, and the vehicle must be registered in Lithuania no earlier than March 23, 2022.

    Electric Vehicle Market Trends

The number of electric vehicles in Lithuania is growing rapidly. As of January 2025, EVs accounted for an increase in the country’s passenger car fleet share from 1.60% to 1.65%. In January alone, the number of EVs grew by 1,032 units (+3.65%), and over the past 12 months – by 9,622 units or 48.9%.

    Charging Infrastructure Expansion

As the number of EVs increases, the charging station infrastructure is also expanding. At the beginning of 2025, there were about 600 public charging access points in Lithuania, and by the end of 2025, at least 1,200 more are planned to be installed.

    Conclusion

In 2025, electric vehicle purchase subsidies in Lithuania provide a significant incentive for both individuals and companies to switch to more eco-friendly transport. The state’s financial support, combined with a rapidly growing charging infrastructure, creates favorable conditions for EV adoption. To benefit from the subsidy, it's essential to carefully review the eligibility requirements and submit the necessary documents on time.
